Small things, big annoyances

I recently posted
a round-up of the recent music and videos we’ve been enjoying here in
the Ganger household. One of the songs I took pains to point out is Lion from Rebecca St. James. However, there’s a small problem with this song that grates on my nerves every time I hear it.

Rather than rant about it, let me post the lyrics and see if you can
spot the same thing I did. In a blatant and shameless attempt to
generate some comment traffic, please post what you see in the comment
thread here on my site (LJ readers — please not in my comment thread
on the LJ feed; I’m trying this as an experiment).

Without further ado:

Mysterious
That’s what I call You
I’m curious about You
I’m scared and I’m not sure that you are safe
But your eyes seem to say that You are good

(Chorus)
This is not a dream that I’m living
This is just a world of Your own
You took me from all that I know
Shown me how it feels to hope
With You with me, facing tomorrow together
I can learn to fly
Feels like I’m living in the lion’s mouth, but the lion is an angel

Wise eyes, You see the core of me
Your gentleness melts me
And now I know that words cannot describe
The power that I feel when I’m with You

Chorus

Peace and power, love forever
Who am I to stand before You?
I am speechless
But in my weakness
You are here and all is well

Chorus x2

    Showed…?

  2. Devin says:

No, that’s a good guess, but it really only jumps out at you when you’re reading the lyric sheet. When she’s singing, it’s not nearly as noticeable.

Besides, I can rationalize it with by mentally adding [You've] in front of it. :)

“You took me from all that I know” bugs me. Tense agreements.

  4. Devin says:

Nope. It isn’t grammatical; I tend to be a lot more forgiving of those sorts of issues for song lyrics. Although after looking at this one for a bit, I’m realizing that Ms. St. James has a serious case of Posession by Alanais Morissette going on.

Okay, it’s been a week. Tell.

I’m working up a separate blog post on it; Steph helped me re-image the song (and whose viewpoint it is from) and helped take the annoyance away.
